Reconstructed road to be exploited for 8 years

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan visited Sevan Martuni-Lchasen highway to get familiarized with the current construction work in water-shed areas.

The maps of the areas subject cleaning and the technical capacities of "Water Master 3" multi-functional digger were introduced to the president.

Talking to journalists, Head of the Committe on Sevan Issues at the presidential administration Vladimir Movisysan highlighted the importance of raising the road level, noting that otherwise the highway would have been flooded by water.

"Today, the road level is two meters above the lake. In that way, it can be exploited for 8 years, thereafter its level will have to be raised or a roundabout road will be constructed," he said, adding that the asphalting will be delayed till autumn since the weather conditions now are not favorable for that.

According to him, the preliminary cost of the project is 590 million Armenian drams of which 376 million was spent last year.
"The construction work will be carried out in three stages. The first stage covers the reconstruction of Tsovap, Artsvanist and Karchaghbyur sections of the highway. The second stage envisages the reconstruction of the road sections with higher levels. For the third stage, we plan the construction of the roundabout road," Movsisyan added.
