Ashot Yeghiazaryan to face criminal charges

The Investigative Committee under the Russian Federation General Prosecutor’s Office has launched a criminal proceeding against Liberal Democratic MP Ashot Yeghiazaryan, RIA Novosti reports, citing the Investigative Committee’s website.

“Аshot Yeghiazaryan will face charges under Section 4, Article 159 of the RF Criminal Code (swindling at large scales),” the Committee says in a release.

The Russian State Duma last week passed a decision on stripping MP Ashot Yeghiazaryan off his mandate.

Earlier two of Yeghiazaryan's colleagues filed a suit against him, accusing the MP of swindling a sum of over 20 billion Russian roubles.

Currently abroad, Yeghiazaryan avoids returning to Russia for fear of security threats agianst himself and his family.
