Azerbaijan should soften its stance in future meetings, says expert

Some of the humanitarian agreements reached between Armenian, Azerbaijani and Russian Presidents in Astrakhan seem to be coming to life now, Director of Noravank foundation Gagik Harutyunyan finds.

“I can’t say what’s going to happen in Astana but the humanitarian tendency is likely to be predominant at upcoming meetings, especially if they are to be organized with Russian mediation,” he told a news conference on Monday.

At that, he noted that Azerbaijan should be concerned over certain issues.

“Today Azerbaijan is facing extremely serious problems with neighbors. One of them is Armenia. We also see that the country has problems with Iran and Georgia.

Speaking about Azerbaijani attempts to normalize the relationship with Georgia, according to him, will not go beyond what he called “information phantom.”

Speaking about Armenia, the expert stressed the importance of Azerbaijan’s adopting a more conceding attitude to the country at meetings to be held in future.

“Azerbaijan should try to adopt a more conceding stance towards Armenia in future meetings,” said Mr Harutyunyan.
