Presidential elections affected OEK’s reputation: Khachik Harutyunyan

The 2008 presidential elections affected the reputation of Orinats Yerkir (OEK, Country of Law) party, according to OEK parliamentarian, Head of National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Agriculture and Environment Khachik Harurtyunyan.

“Our people look upon everything somewhat superficially, nonetheless, they have grown to realize the importance of our steps. Hadn’t we joined the coalition after the 2008 presidential elections, I don’t know what would have happened by now,” he told today a news conference.

“The country is in a war situation, and destabilizing its domestic situation would have been a real threat,” he said, adding that OEK has always managed to win seats in parliament and has enough resources and potential to win the upcoming elections as well.

Touching upon presidential elections, Mr Harutyunyan said that under a 2008 agreement singed with the ruling coalition, their party undertook not to propose a presidential candidate in 2013.

“OEK will keep its promise and back Serzh Sargsyan,” he stressed.
