Police crime will not go unpunished: HAK

Opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK) has released a statement on the recent police violence against its activists.

"Early in the morning today, when around a dozen of activists of the Armenian National Congress were holding a rally on Charles Aznavur Square near the venues of The EU-Armenia Civil Society Seminar, several policemen assaulted them and without any legal claims, resorted to violence, tearing the posters and inflicting bodily injuries on the activists. Four of them were taken to the police without any legal bases. Journalists' cameras fixed the illegal acts of the police. The violence continued on the way and then at the police department," reads the statement.

Further is says that the police attacks against the demonstrators testify to the fact that the authorities seek to destroy the opposition's rally, by using force.

"The Armenian National Congress declares that the police have committed their successful crime which will not go unpunished. Notwithstanding the illegal operations, the congress will continue its everyday struggle against the gang-rule and its vicious practices," reads the statement.
