International community shouldn’t ignore Karabakh conflict: Abdullah Gul

“It is impossible to ignore the occupation of Azerbaijani territories,” Turkish President Abdullah Gul said on Monday, speaking at Oxford Center for Islamic Studies in Britain.

"Even Armenia is aware that these territories do not belong to it," Gul was quoted by Turkish news website Turkiye as saying.

Further the Turkish president said that the existing regional problems should be resolved as soon as possible.

“Frozen problems existing in the region should not be allowed to be continuous. Otherwise they may suddenly burst up,” Mr Gul has said.

Asked about Armenia-Turkey rapprochement, he has said that there is a “silent diplomacy” underway.

“It is necessary to work to ensure stability in the Caucasus. That is what we are doing.”

According to him, despite the fact that Turkey was among the first countries to recognize Armenia's independence, some problems continue to exist between the two countries.

"In the recent 1-2 years we have made great efforts to resolve them and will continue to do so," Azerbaijani news Agency Trend quoted Turkish leader as saying.
