Azerbaijanis may be against resumption of war: Richard Giragosian

The Sunday parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan were not free, hence the country's new government cannot be considered democratic, Head of Armenian Center for National and International Studies (ACNIS) Richard Giragosyan said at a press conference today.

According to him, there were none more unsuccessful elections in this region, which far more worsened the situation related to democracy in the region.

"But the elections in Azerbaijan were not big surprise," Mr Giragosian said.

"These elections were significant for Armenia in that they helped shape the Azerbaijani state Armenia is going to negotiate with," he said, adding that the country still continues its anti-Armenian statements.

"The Azeris may be against the resumption of war or their sons being taken to the battlefield again. This is a factor demonstrating the weakness of Azerbaijan's threats," said the analyst.

With regard to elections' importance of these elections for Azerbaijani citizens, he stressed the fact that the Aliyev clan remained in power.
