Four opposition activists taken to police from demonstration site

The opposition's rally began at midday today on Charles Aznavour Square in Yerevan.

Policemen had gathered on the site since early morning. They have installed iron barricades around the square not to allow protesters to approach Yerevan hotel which hosts today the EU-Armenia conference titled "Fair Trial and Independence of Judicial Law."

The opposition activists are attempting to inform the conference participants of the current situation related to human rights protection in Armenia.

Policemen have allowed some of them to approach the hotel territory with flags and posters. The crowed is prohibited to move beyond the barricades.

10 youth activists representing opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK) started the protest at 9:30 in the morning.

The police approached the protesters asking them to abandon the area, HAK activist Vladimir Karapetyan told Tert.am.

According to him, the youth activists disobeyed, and the police provoked a scuffle by asking to leave the area.

Four of the youth activists were as result taken to the police department of Kentron (Centre) district. Among them are Sargis
Gevorgyan and Vahagn Gevorgyan who both have previously been for several times taken to the police for disobedience during such public events.
