Rumors on child kidnapping from Yerevan schools prove false

The recent media reports on child kidnapping from Yerevan schools are untrue, according to Gayane Soghomonyan, Head of Yerevan Municipality’s Department of Education.

“From time to time, children go home a little late. Sometimes they visit friends without warning their parents previously, but no kidnapping cases have been recorded. Had anything of the kind happened, we’d have been immediately notified and voiced our concerns,” she told Tert.am.

According to her, schools in Yerevan always take discipline measures, and representatives from district education departments periodically visit schools and kindergartens to conduct consultations.

“During the last consultation on Saturday, parents, especially those having children at elementary schools, were asked to be more attentive. We always call for parents’ attention, asking them to take children home in time, not to make teachers wait for hours,” Ms Soghomonyan said.

The Public Relations Department of Armenian Police also denies any rumors on child kidnapping incidents.

“There are no specific facts at the moment. School discipline is constantly under our control,” the Police reports.
