Arrested uranium dealer is investigator's father: Haykakan Zhamanak

Smbat Tonoyan recently arrested on charges of attempting to sell highly enriched uranium to extremist groups is the son of investigator for especially important cases Samvel Tonoyan.

The latter is better known to public as a member of the special investigative group dealing with the March 1 case, local Armenian daily Haykakan Zhamanak (Armenian Time) reports.

Having joined the group on April 30, 2008, Samvel Tonoyan worked with special diligence, the author of the article writes, adding that it was Tonoyan who brought the alleged charges against opposition members Ara Hovhannisyan and Gabriel Gabrielyan.

Both of the opposition activists are currently political prisoners, the former was sentenced to 9 and the latter to 7 years in prison, whereas most of the gang members of the March 1, 2008, events were released on parole after 3 months of imprisonment, says the article.
