Creating illusions over Nikol Pashinyan's being subjected to violence?

Head of the Public Relations Department of Armenian Justice Ministry's Penitentiary Division Armen Babayan has released a statement, condemning the recent report on alleged violence against jailed opposition activist Nikol Pashinyan.

"Convict Nikol Pashinyan, currently serving his sentence in Kosh penitentiary, has again made false allegations on being subjected to violence," reads the statement.

Further it says that at 2:50 a.m. the convict began screaming, claiming he had been attacked by masked Spetsnaz policemen. The lights in the shelter were immediately switched on, and the 18 detainees in the cell explained to him that there were no masked individuals inside. Two minutes later, employees of the penitentiary institution entered the cell, inviting the convict to the duty station to clarify the circumstances, as well as provide him with medical assistance. The examination found no bodily injuries. The other convicts in the cell denied any attempts of violence, some claiming that it might have been the result of Pashinyan's nightmare.

Before that, different officials received night calls at a previously arranged hour (there were no calls at the penitentiary at that time) with requests to clarify the circuumstances of the above-ementioned scenario and take preventive measures.

"This is one of the non-serious initiatives aimed at creating illusions about Nikol Pashinyan's being subjected to violence," reads the release.
