Protesters clash with police in Yerevan

Opposition Armenian National Congress (HAK) activists and the relatives of political prisoners have gathered today in front of the General Prosecutor's Office to voice their protest in support of political prisoners.

Holding the portraits of the political prisoners, as well as posters reading "Where are the murderers of March 1?" they chanted slogans,
"We demand free independent Armenia!," "Release political prisoners!," "Punish killers!" and "Nikol, Nikol, keep your hands off Nikol!"

"Should one of the political prisoners suffer the slightest damage, the authorities will be held responsible," Head of HAK board Aram Manukyan told journalists.

Police have surrounded the entrance of the General Prosecutor's Office not, allowing demonstrators to approach the building.

Seeing former political prisoner Vardges Gaspari coming near, the policemen attacked him, pushing him to the ground. In response, the demonstrators attacked the police.

HAK coordinator Levon Zurabyan soothed the crowd, calling for a "civilized struggle."
