Screenings of Azerbaijani films canceled again

The screenings of Azerbaijani films will not take place this year, organizer and president of the Caucasus Center of Peace-Making Initiatives (CCPI) Georgy Vanyan told Tert.am.

Mr Vanyan said that the screenings were cancelled for this year because the owner of the venue, where they were planned to take place, made a last-minute decision and refused to allow the screenings.

He also said that he had been trying to organize the screenings since 2009 - but to no avail.

"Since 2009 I wanted to organize the screenings of Azerbaijani film festivals," said he, adding that he is not going to quite the idea.

"I will not quit my idea.'

Some Armenian NGOs have strongly opposed to the initiative. Discussions on Facebook have also been part of the protest.

So far about 10 proprietors of different halls have for different reasons refused to host the screenings of Azerbaijani films.

Initially they were scheduled to take place on November 2. They were later postponed until 4 p.m. on November 12.
