US-Armenian intergovernmental commission to address fairness in economy

Yerevan is hosting the second session of US-Armenia intergovernmental commission aimed at discussing issues like creation of favorable conditions for entrepreneurship, evaluation of macro-economic situation, tax and costumes policy and administration, introduction of international quality standards, as well as issues related to fair and equal competition.

The session is attended by Armenian statesmen, businessmen and representatives of US Embassy in Armenia, as well as, representatives of international organizations.

From Armenia the session is co-chaired by Armenia's Minister of Economy Nerses Yeritsyan. Coordinator of US Assistance to Europe and Eurasia at the US State Department Daniel Rosenblum acts as US co-chair.

Addressing the participants Mr Rosenblum said that the US attaches importance to the long-standing cooperation in the sphere of trade and investments. He also said that 4 working groups have been established to discuss the problems in sectors like energy, agriculture, healthcare and trade.

"US Millennium Challenge Corporation in Armenia registers progress in terms of liberalization of the economy, but at the same time it mentions that there are still impediments," said he, adding that some issues related to fairness in the economy need to be addressed in Armenia.

According to him, such these kinds of sessions will pave the way to taking steps to eliminate those impediments.
