Fairness deemed as main precondition for Karabakh conflict settlement- Ahmadinejad

Karabakh conflict can be resolved through negotiations, provided there is a fair approach and mutual respect, Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad has said.

“The countries in the region should live in peace and solidarity. We are considered neighbors and cannot deny the fact. Should we attempt to resolve our problems in a peaceful and friendly manner, all problems will find a solution. The settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict is also possible provided parties conduct negotiations, demonstrating fair approach and mutual respect,” the Iranian leader has said in an interview with the Azerbaijani Lider TV.

He noted that the conflict in the region brings harm to all parties.

“The conflict results in loss of time and resources as well as in nervous tension. It also impedes progress. We have continuously expressed Iran’s willingness to assist in the conflict resolution,” he added.

President Ahmadinejad is planning a visit to Azerbaijan on Wednesday to meet with his Azerbaijani counterpart. He will also take part in the Caspian Sea Leaders' Summit.
