Astana meeting to help parties reach landmark decision

The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group have recently demonstrated activeness in their mediation efforts, promoting more meetings between parties, OSCE Secretary General Marc Perrin de Brichambaut told a November 15 news conference in Moscow.

Referring to the recent presidential meeting in Astrakhan, the diplomat highlighted the roles of the Russian president and the Foreign Ministry in boosting the negotiations process, mentioning with sorrow that the recent efforts in that direction coincided with an increased tension on the Karabakh-Azerbaijan contact line.

Asked by a Regnum correspondent to comment on the possibility of reaching progress after the OSCE Summit in Astana, de Brichambaut said he was hopeful the discussion will enable Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents to have a new meeting with the participation of the OSCE Minsk Group countries’ leaders.

“I hope it will help parties reach a difficult though important decision,” de Brichambaut said.
