Armenia should prepare a new draft protocol over rapprochement with Turkey: G. Manoyan

Armenia should immediately withdraw its signature from the Armenia-Turkey Protocols, Head of Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashanktsutyun, ARF-D) Bureau's Hay Dat and Political Affairs Office Giro Manoyan told a press conference today.

“We had stated, we are stating now that Armenia needs to withdraw its signature from the Armenia-Turkey Protocols,” said he.

According to Mr Manoyan, Armenia should prepare a new draft protocol comprising of three points that will clearly mention that the parties have decided to establish diplomatic relations, open the roads [meaning the borders] and settle the problems in line with the norms of international law.

Further Mr Manoyan said that Armenia should not worry about withdrawing its signature from those documents given Turkey was not “fair during the negotiations and did not bring those Protocols to life without preconditions.”

Another factor that Armenia should do this, according to him, is that it has lost more rather than won anything in those talks.

“If the authorities had started these negotiations so that to raise Armenia’s international rating, they could have said that earlier. I would rather say that with this step the issue of authorities’ legitimacy was raised,” explained Mr Manoyan.
