Los Angeles welcomes Karabakh President Bako Sahakyan

On 19 November Bako Sahakyan, the President of the Artsakh Republic (Nagorno Karabakh), delivered a speech at the World Affairs Council of Orange County, Los Angeles, according to a release by Karabakh's presidential office.

The event was attended by Consular General of the Republic of Armenia in Los Angeles, Grigor Hovhannisyan, the head of the Central Information Department Karabakh's presidential office, Davit Babayan, NKR permanent representative to the USA, Robert Avetisyan, and other officials.

On the same day Mr Sahakyan visited Los Angeles City Council, met its members and the head of the Council's president Eric Garcetti.

Further Karabakh's president took part in a City Council meeting and expressed gratitude to the Los Angeles authorities for their stance towards our Karabakhi Armenians and for the assistance provided in an attempt to solving issues the Armenian people face.

The members of the City Council delivered speeches too. Welcoming the President of the Artsakh Republic they underlined the importance of independent, free and democratic Karabakh and its existence.

Present at the meeting were Primate of the Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church Archbishop, Pargev Martirosyan, Consular General of the Republic of Armenia in Los Angeles, Grigor Hovhannisyan, President of the United Armenian Fund, vice-president of the Lincy foundation, Harout Sassounian, and other officials.

Later on the same day Bako Sahakyan visited the residence of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church and met with Primate Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, members of the Diocesan Council and representatives of the local Armenian community.

Karabakh's president highlighted the importance of the construction of the new St. Leon Cathedral, noting that the church is not only a masterpiece of Armenian architecture, but will also play a significant role in preserving national identity of Diasporan Armenians.

Issues related to a, as well as Homeland-Diaspora relations were discussed during the meeting. Speaking about them Bako Sahakyan highly appreciated the efforts the Western Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church has made to help Artsakh.
