7 arrested for crossing Armenian-Turkish border illegally

Armenia’s National Security Council received Sunday a report on unknown individuals’ having crossed the Armenian-Turkish state border.

As a result of investigative operations, 7 individuals who had crossed the border from the Turkish side without an entry permit were found in the neighborhood of Surenavan community.

The trespassers are now under arrest. A criminal case has been launched under Article 329 of Armenia’s Criminal Code (Illegal State Border Crossing).

Turkey closed the border with Armenia in 1993 to support its Turkic ally Azerbaijam over the Nagarno Karabakh War.

The border is now under the control by Russian troops.
