Group in Artsakh calls for defense minister’s resignation

The Helsinki Initiative -92 Committee, a non-governmental organization based in Nagorno Karabakh, has demanded the resignation of the republic’s defense minister in connection with a recent skirmish at a military unit.

“The November 19, 2010 incident in one of the Nagorno Karabakh Army units that resulted in many human losses demonstrates the irresponsible attitude and non-professionalism of the military staff and state officials,” a press release issued by the organization says.

“The Committee characterizes the incident as a sign of demoralization in the Artsakh Army and calls on NKR president, as the guarantor of the Karabakh people’s sovereignty and security, to immediately dismiss the NKR Defense Minister and punish the perpetrators, engaging the Nagorno Karabakh public in the investigation process.”
