Opposition party demands to release all political prisoners

Opposition Armenian Pan-National Movement party (APNM) will consistently continue using all the possible means to exert pressure on Armenia’s ruling authorities so that they will release political prisoners before January 2010, the head of the APNM Board, Aram Manukyan, told a press conference today.

“We will not tolerate this phenomenon. I am saying again that we will continue the fight through our liberal colleagues, as well as through those bodies we are affiliated with,” said he.

It comes after a few European liberal parties issued a joint statement, demanding the release of Armenian political prisoners.

To have them released, according to Mr Manukyan, the APNM will use all the opportunities also at the Council of Europe and the European Union where it is backed by liberal factions.

“Our game is open and our say is clear-cut, and the release of political prisoners is an urgent issue,” he added.
