Council of Europe adopts document on humanitarian situation in Abkhazia and South Ossetia

The Council of Europe has adopted a document on the humanitarian situation in the former Georgian regions and currently independent states of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, according to Georgian news agency GHN.

Comprised of five points the document draws attention to the necessity of "allowing international mission into the occupied territories."

The move comes after NATO's Parliamentary Assembly adopted a document backing Georgia's territorial integrity.

Commenting on the document Georgia's Ambassador to the Council of Europe Zurab Chiaberashvili has said that the document is "a step forward," one that once again affirms the international community's position towards Russia.

That document will have serious impact on Russia, he has added.

"We are hopeful that the document will have a significant impact on Russia both within the Council of Europe and at the international format," Mr Chiaberashvili has said.
