Protesters oustside government building demand justice

A group of Armenian citizens has been protesting in front of the government building since morning in an attempt to draw the attention of ministers and other government officials on their problems.

Most of them are parents of soldiers whose sons have been killed in various non-combat circumstances.

Their demand is that the relevant bodies disclose the circumstances of their sons' deaths and hold those guilty accountable.

Traditionally these protests have for a long time now taken place on Thursdays - the day the government holds its weekly session.

Talking to Tert.am some of the protesters said that the government does not take effective measures to disclose those cases.

Holding posters that read "Those Seizing Property Remained Unpunished," some of the protesters are those citizens that once lived in the center of Yerevan, where new buildings are being built now.

Among the protesters is also former political prisoner Vardges Gaspary who protects the interests of political prisoners.

Holding a poster that read "Keep Your Bloody Hands Away From Nikol" he demanded the release of the jailed Chief Editor of local Armenian daily Haykakan Zhamanak (Armenian Time) Nikol Pashinyan, as well as other political prisoners imprisoned after the March 1 events sparked by the 2008 disputed presidential elections.
