Georgians call for their president's resignation

The People's Representative Assembly of Georgia has called for the impeachment of President Mikheil Saakashvili, Georgian news agency GHN reported.

Assembly organizers claim impeachment to be the only way for the president to resign peacefully.

Assembly Delegates think their parliament consists of corrupt officials incapable of making decisions.

"The Georgian parliament does not represent the people's will. Most of Georgians call for Saakashvili's voluntary resignation but in vain. So people vest themselves with the authority to declare impeachment on the country's government and leader, urging the latter to resign" reads the statement on declaring impeachment on the Georgian president and parliament.

The document enumerates several reasons for declaring impeachment, such as monopolization of power, corrupt government system, forms of governance violating human rights, discrimination on political grounds etc.
