Armenia's president will attend the OSCE summit in Astana

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan will on November 30 pay a working visit to Astana, Kazakhstan, according to a press release by Armenia's presidential office.

Sargsyan will attend the 7th summit of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to be held from December 1-2.
In Astana he will also hold bilateral meetings.

It is not known whether or not Sargsyan will meet his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev who is reportedly expected to attend the summit.

Should there be any such meeting; Sargsyan and Aliyev are expected to discuss the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The talks over the Karabakh conflict are spearheaded by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries – US, Russia and France.

The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno Karabakh started in the early 1990s when Karabakhi Armenians voiced their intention to live independently from Azerbaijan. It was followed by pogroms against Armenians in Sumgait, Baku and Nagorno Karabakh that turned into a bloody war, leaving around 30,000 killed and more than a million displaced.
