Heritage MP Safaryan won't join Rule of Law party

The publication by local Armenian daily Hraparak is made up, Stepan Safaryan, the head of Heritage party's faction in parliament, has said.

"That publication is shamelessly made up from the very first word," Safaryan told Tert.am.

It comes after Hraparak claimed it had learned that the Rule of Law (RoL) party had attempted to recruit Safaryan by offering some top positions and that the latter has already held two secret meetings with RoL's leadership.

The source also said that "to sound more convincing", the RoL leadership is using the argument that the Heritage party will not win seats at the 2012 parliamentary elections. "Therefore, it is now the best time to leave the Heritage's sinking ship," the paper said.

"There has been no such meeting. I don't want to adhere to any other party as I feel very strong in Heritage. I have even not given rise to making such an offer," Stepanyan said, adding that he is not the person to use every such occasion for personal gain.

Further Safaryan said that regardless whether or not Heritage wins parliamentary seats after the 2012 parliamentary elections, he will definitely not quit the party.

"Though I am sure that my party will in 2012 be far more successful, but even if this is not the case, I am not thinking about going anywhere," said Safaryan.
