Defense Ministry denies reports on soldier's suicide

Armenian Defense Ministry has denied recent reports by media on a soldier's suicide in one of Armenia's military units.

"Zhamanak newspaper's December 1 article entitled 'Another suicide' is misinformation aimed at discrediting the Armenian army," Defense Ministry's spokesman David Karapetyan said in a news release. "On November 17, the Zhamanak newspaper published an article titled 'Soldier already dead" about a serviceman receiving treatment at a military hospital. Earlier in November, the same paper published another article with the photo of a Georgian soldier who had died during the 2008 Russian-Georgian war. All this speaks of the newspaper's non-observance of the journalism ethics."
