"Freedom and Justice for Dogan Akhanli"

German Dr. Tessa Hofmann and the Group against the genocides and for reconciliation of the people call a third peaceful rally denouncing the arbitrary and unlawful detention of human rights defender and Turkish writer Dogan Akhanli.

According to Paris-based independent journalist Jean Eckian, the peaceful rally will be organized in collaboration with the Society for threatened people and will take place on December 4 in front of Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.

The event entitled "Freedom and Justice for Dogan Akhanli" will precede a lawsuit on December 8 in Istanbul. Another action will take place on December 6 in Cologne.

A German citizen since 2001 Dogan Akhanli – who called to recognize the Armenian genocide – was arrested on August 10, 2010 at an Istanbul airport. He had fled Turkey, accused of having taken part to a theft in an exchange office during which a man was killed in 1989.
