Russia to play key role in Karabakh conflict settlement: Abdullah Gul

Turkey is playing a leading role with Russia in the attempts to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, President Abdullah Gul has told Reuters news agency, News.az reported.

President Gul said that closer ties between Ankara and Moscow had led to progress in resolving the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the Nagorno-Karabakh issue.

The Turkish leader also said that he had discussed the Karabakh conflict with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev at the OSCE Summit in Astana.

"Even though there is no breakthrough point at the moment, there are some positive steps taking place," Gul said, adding that the current situation in the Caucasus is in none of the parties' interest.
