Egg prices won't go up before New Year, promises producer

Egg prices won't go up even by a penny before the New Year, Manase Epremyan, the acting Director of the Lusakert Pedigree Poultry Plant, told a press conference today.

The reason, according to him, is that a relevant batch of eggs has already been produced and that will allow to avoid any rise in prices.

Asked to comment on media reports that egg producers have been instructed to raise the prices, Epremyan dismissed the allegations as untrue.

"In fact, we have not been instructed or pressured on [to raise the prices]," said he, adding that currently the retail egg prices range between 50-60 drams.

Due to pre-New Year preparations prices for eggs have traditionally jumped after the mid December almost every year in Armenia.
Armen Poghosyan, the President of the Protection of Consumers' Rights NGO, who was also attending the press conference, called on the journalists not to forget what Manase Epremyan promised.

"Today is December 4. Remember this promise well!" said he.
