Public Council to give attention to all social classes' opinions: Serzh Sargsyan

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan met today with members of the Public Council, the presidential press service reported.

The meeting was also attended by Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan.

The discussion focused on the problems in the education sector.

The president praised the effectiveness of meetings held in such format, saying that they enable participants to demonstrate a comprehensive approach to the issues discussed and proposals submitted.

"I believe we'll be able to sum up our activities in the first quarter, and I will try to keep you informed of our further plans. We have created the Public Council to be able to provide a feedback and take into consideration the opinions of all classes of society," he said.

President of the Public Council Vazgen Manukyan briefed on the Council's recent activities, including his meetings with people representing different groups of society.

He said the Public Council always keeps the problems in educational sector in the spotlight.

The issues concerning the organization of educational process in Armenia were introduced by working group member Edward Ghazaryan, the Chairman of the Public Council Committee on Education, Science, Culture, Youth and Sports.

He dwelled on the council's proposal on reducing teachers and students' workload within spoke of other problems, such as administrative issues, educational broadcasts, technical equipment and lack of teachers in remote rural areas.

Minister Ashotyan answered the participants' questions.

The members of the Public Council also raised other problems arousing concern in society.
