Tax inspectors to be under stricter control

In order to improve the quality of the service provided to taxpayers and bring it in line with international standards, the head of Armenia's State Revenue Committee has issued an order that minimizes contacts between taxpayers and tax agencies, the committee's deputy head told a news conference today.

The order bars "any contact, any visit" to tax agencies that are not required by the tax legislation, Armen Alaverdyan said. "Tax inspectors have no right to summon taxpayers just because they want to find out something."

He also said that the practice of demanding extra documents from taxpayers will also be eliminated.

Alaverdyan also said that the committee will keep a stricter eye on how the tax inspectors behave, since some of disgrace "tax inspector's reputation by their bad behavior."

A package of amendments to the tax legislation easing some provisions has been submitted to parliament, he added.
