Prices in Armenia go up ahead of New Year

Ahead of the New Year holidays, Armenian businessmen think more about their income, according to Melita Hakobyan, Chairwoman of the National Association of Consumers.

Speaking at a news conference on Tuesday, she said prices on all kind of products increase on the eve of the New Year.

"Even Christmas decorations become more expensive," she said, adding that while in other countries prices go down in holiday seasons, the opposite happens in Armenia.

Hakobyan said the government has to take measures to restrain the inflation.

She also said that before speaking about European prices, it is necessary to think about enhancing living standards.

"Our importers who cover 85% of the market increase prices, leaving people in а desperate situation," she added.
