Heritage party skips vote on several draft laws

The opposition Heritage party today refused to vote on the draft law on medals and other government honors, which eventually was adopted by the National Assembly.

Stepan Safaryan, the leader of the party's faction in parliament, called the law unreasonable. The law stipulates that foreigners can be awarded a "Glory Medal", and Armenian nationals an "Honor Medal".

The party also refused to participate in the voting of the amendments to the Law on International Treaties, explaining that it contradicts the Vienna Convention. The amendments enable Armenia to sign treaties with internationally unrecognized states.
