Haykakan Zhamanak: Beglaryan will have either to apologize or resign by Monday

An alleged incident involving Yerevan Mayor Gagik Beglaryan and Aram Kandayan, an employee of the Department of Protocol of Armenia's presidential administration, has caught media spotlight these days.

Haykakan Zhamanak daily claims it has learned that Gagik Beglaryan has to either apologize to Kandayan and the whole staff of the Department of Protocol or resign by Monday.

Beglaryan reportedly severely beat Kandayan because the latter had asked Beglaryan's wife to move to another seat at Placido Domingo's concert in Yerevan last week.

The paper explains that the seat of Beglaryan's wife was next to that of the president, and that according to the protocol procedures, only two persons can sit next to the president - the Chairman of Armenia's National Assembly and the Armenian Catholicos.

Further, the paper says that the presidential administration unofficially confirmed the widespread reports that the president does not want to have any meeting with Gagik Beglaryan as he is deeply offended by his behavior and is angry with him.

It also says that discussions on social network on Tuesday indicated that it is unlikely that Gagik Beglaryan would apologize to Kandayan.

However, the paper says, it looks like Beglaryan will be pressured to apologize in order to quiet the scandal.
