Armenian opposition politicians visit Freedom House

The opposition Republic party leader Aram Sargsyan and party's senior member Artak Zeynlyan met Wednesday with the representatives of the Freedom House, Voice of America reported.

David Krammer, head of the Department of Eurasian Affairs, senior analyst Sam Patten and other representatives of the organization working on the regional issues, attended the meeting.

Sargsyan and Zeynalyan spoke about the country's situation in the aftermath of the March 1, 2008 events. Issues concerning political prisoners, freedom of press, democracy and human rights were discussed at the meeting.

The oppositionists focused on the issue of the political prisoners. Sargsyan said that some of them were released recently due to international pressures, but stronger measures are needed to achieve the release of the remaining 10 prisoners.
