Escalating violence may force Armenians out of Russia - expert

The escalating violence against foreign nationals in Russia may force some Armenians out of that country, making most emigrants to seek employment opportunities elsewhere, says political analyst Alexander Iskandaryan.

Addressing the issue at a news conference on Wednesday, he said the xenophobia in Russia has assumed larger scales.

"This should no longer be considered Caucaso-phobia but rather blacko-phobia since other ethnic groups too, fall victim to violence. We do see Russian policemen's mild attitude to the those responding to such acts," he said.

The expert was concerned that the acts of violence may take a political nature, making the Russian authorities unable to control the situation any more.

Recently, some nationalists in Russia attacked two Armenians.

This comes after a group of Caucasian nationasl beat to death one the fans of Spartak FC at a recent match.
