Yeghishe Charents' native house leveled– Samvel Karapetyan

Renowned Armenian poet Yeghishe Charents' native house in the town of Kars (currently in Turkey) has been destroyed, and a new construction has been built on its site, according to historian and architecture expert Samvel Karapetyan.

Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, he said that the Turkish media reports that the great poet's house is offered for sale is a blatant lie.

He said Turks often mislead Armenia tourists, showing them different houses every time and claiming that it belonged to Charents.

"They are not witty enough to show the same collapsed house to different people," he added.

Referring to the statements of Heghine Abrahamyan, the grand-daughter of the last priest of Kars, the expert said that Charents' family lived in a black two-storey house, and there are existing pictures of the house.
But the district in which it was located has been grazed to the ground, he added.
