Yerevan Council of Elders to elect new mayor today

The Council of Elders of Yerevan will convene today in an extraordinary session to elect a new mayor.

The ruling Republican Party of Armenia Board nominated Hayrusgazard Director Karen Karapetyan for the post at its Thursday meeting.

The former mayor, Gagik Beglaryan, handed in his resignation after the scandal with assaulting Aram Kandayan, an employee of the Protocol Department at the presidential apparatus.
