Oppositionist and Swedish diplomats discuss democratic freedoms in Armenia
Opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) coordinator Levon Zurabyan met on December 18 Martin Hagstrom, Deputy Director of the Swedish Foreign Ministry's Department on Eastern Europe, and Martin Rosen, the head of the Armenia office.
According to an ANC press release, Levon Zurabyan briefed them on ANC's views over the future of the Armenia-EU relations in the framework of the Eastern Partnership Program.
Among other things discussed at the meeting was the situation with democratic freedoms in Armenia.
In particular, they discussed issues related to the release of political prisoners, conduct of an independent investigation of the March 1, 2008 events, liberalization of television and holding democratic elections in Armenia.
Zurabyan also spoke about opposition's views over the eradication of widespread corruption in Armenia.
The parties also discussed the future of the Armenia-Turkey normalization and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
