Genocide denier actor to feature Turkish-Armenian character

Gilliom Delorme, a French actor who denies that the 1915 massacres of Armenians in Turkey constituted genocide, has been invited to star in "Sword and Ney" – a film on Armenia-Turkey relations to be shot in 2011 and aimed at establishing friendly ties between the Turkish and Armenian peoples.

Famous British actress Jude law and French actress and singer Vanessa Paradis will also star in the film.

Speaking to Turkish daily Hurriyet, Delorme said that part of the film will be shot in Van and Erzincan, Turkey, and in Marseille, France.

Asked what he knows about Armenian Cause given he will portray an Armenian young man, Delorme has said that the French parliament has been unfair by recognizing the 1915 massacres of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire as genocide.

"The French parliament adopted a law according to which those who deny the Armenian Genocide will be fined for 25,000 Euros and will be sentenced for five years in prison. So, the Turkish history was condemned at the French parliament … This is unfair. That is a parliament not a court. I think that Turkey was treated unfairly over the Armenian issue. I don't think it was genocide," Delorme told Hurriyet.

Speaking about his character, Delorme said he will feature a young Armenian man named Markos.

"Markos and young Turkish man Kerem are in love with the same girl," he explained.
