Member of the Council of Elders Martin Vardazaryan bestows mayoral necklace upon Mayor-elect Karen Karapetyan
In an inauguration ceremony at the Yerevan City Hall, Mayor-elect Karen Karapetyan took assumed mayoral duties, vowing to comply with Armenia's Constitution and the decisions by the Council of Elders during his term in office.
Karapetyan also promised to honestly and conscientiously carry out his duties and serve to the prosperity of Yerevan and to the welfare of its residents.
"I assume an obligation to take care of preserving and multiplying the glory of our ancient capital, to defend the rights of the community, its legal interests and property," said Karapetyan, who was bestowed the mayoral necklace following his oath.
Among other high-ranking officials, the inauguration was attended also by President Serzh Sargsyan who wished the mayor-elect "new vigor, persistence and success".
"It is well known that Mr Karen Karapetyan is a good manager, is respected in Yerevan and has a good moral image. I wish you, Mr Karapetyan, to meet the expectations of all of us," said Sargsyan.
He said his expectations from Karapetyan relate to this working style, adding that in a couple of months they will gather again to see whether or not they can meet the standards set by them.
"If we are able to carry out our own requirements, then we will be able to move our country foreword," Sargsyan said.
