US Department of State urges House of Representatives to reject Armenian Genocide resolution
The US Department of State is currently negotiating with the representatives of Congress to prevent Armenian Genocide Resolution, (H.RES.252) from being included in the plenary session agenda, the Department of State Spokesperson Philip Crowley has told a briefing, the Turkish news agency Anadolu reported.
Asked whether Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is conducting talks with Nancy Pelosi or other House members to urge them to remove the bill from the agenda, Crowley said he didn't maintain contacts with the House members and couldn't say anything as to negotiations being under way.
Quoting another senior Department of State representative, the agency said it is still unknown whether or not the resolution will be discussed.
"It's up to Congress to decide what to do, but we are against the adoption of the resolution," the official said.
