Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has joined the opposition's campaign to fight corruption, says Levon Zurabyan, the ccoordinator of the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC).

Speaking at a news conference on Tuesday, he characterized the president's recent speech at the Republican Party's 20th anniversary celebration as that of an opposition figure.

"As Serzh Sargsyan has given nicknamed gangsters the green light in the Republican Party, I recommend that he remove them from there and establish a public control over their activities," he said.

Zurabyan called on the authorities to give up the practice of imitating their Russian counterparts.

He also encouraged President Sargsyan's efforts to combat corruption and called on him to sack all the officials abusing authority.

"I propose that the chief corrpuptionist - Serzh Sargsyan - be fired from office," the ANC coordinator said, wishing the president fruitful activities in future.
