Nancy Pelosi steps back from promise to Armenians-Milliyet
US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was unable to fulfill her promise to Armenians to include the Armenian Genocide Resolution (H. Res. 252) in Congress agenda, the Turkish newspaper Milliyet said.
"Nancy Pelosi was defeated as she proved unable to bring H. Res. 252 to Congress. But had the resolution been brought to the agenda it would have been adopted… Once more during her tenure has Pelosi stepped back from her attempts to achieve the recognition of the Armenian Genocide," the newspaper says.
House Majority Leader Staney Hoyer has told the Turkish news agency Anadolu that Congress is unlikely to bring the resolution to the agenda at its Wednesday session.
"We closely follow the process. The absence of the issue from the agenda doesn't mean it cannot be included there at all. Some changes may occur at the last moment… We do believe that a winner of Nobel Prize will be able to protect peace and freedom," Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan had told a news conference after a meeting with his Syrian counterpart in Ankara.
