Skype explains cause of outage, apologizes for disruption

Luxembourg-based Skype Ltd. has posted an new entry on Eritctric Blog in order to explain what caused the ongoing outage, which is still affecting thousands of individuals worldwide. Skype Lead of Communications Peter Parkes indicates that the popular VoIP [voice over IP] service went down due to the fact that many of its supernodes were taken offline by an unnamed problem affecting several versions of Skype.

To solve the issue, Parkes states that Skype engineers are creating new ‘mega-supernodes’ as fast as possible. However, the process can take several hours at most.

Lastly, Parkes apologizes on behalf of the company for the disruption.
