UN General Assembly passes resolutions on people's right to self-determination
The United Nations General Assembly has unanimously passed several resolutions focusing on the peoples' right of to self-determination.
One of the documents concerns the universal realization of the self-determination right. It calls for giving special attention to all kinds of violations of this right. A number of UN member states are convinced the right to self-determination is a fundamental principle of international law and constitutes one of the key pillars of the entire international legal system.
Another resolution passed recently concerns the cooperation between the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Conference. Under the document, the General Assembly calls on the two bodies to continue collaboration towards the solution of universal problems, such as international peace and security, disarmament, fundamental human rights and freedoms, and peoples' right to self-determination.
Both resolutions were passed after discussions in relevant UN agencies. The discussions brought together several countries including Armenia, the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported.
