Henry Thierry to give up honors for World Cup participation
Thierry Henry has hit back at accusations that the New York Red Bulls star was unprepared to give up his 2010 World Cup bonus, Goal.com reported.
Liberation reported earlier this week that the former Arsenal striker had refused, along with Nicolas Anelka, to sign away around €150,000 (£127,000) due to him for his participation in les Bleus’ disastrous campaign in South Africa — which finished at the group stages amid arguments within the camp — that had been earmarked for charity.
Though Henry admitted that he has not yet signed a document nullifying his bonus payments, he fully intends to do so.
“It was only last Tuesday that my agent received a mail from the FFF [French FA],” France’s record scorer indicated to L'Equipe.
“To sign a document, it is necessary to have knowledge. It will be signed and approved. Given what we showed in South Africa, I find it natural that we give up these bonuses.”
France earned just one point in the World Cup, scoring only a solitary goal in the process. Henry has since ended his international career.
