Opposition held 7 demonstrations, 2 marches in 2011 - ANC sums up the year
At its end-of-year session organized on Wednesday, the political board of the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) summed up its accomplishments for 2010.
The meeting which was chaired by the opposition leader and former Armenian president Levon Ter-Petrosyan focused on the opposition-held rallies, processions and other events, the ex-president's spokesman, Arman Musinyan, told Tert.am.
"We organized seven big republican-wide demonstrations and two overcrowded processions, as well as six public events in the regions," he said.
"In addition to the steps set forth in its declaration (controlling the constitutional order, releasing political prisoners, disclosing the circumstances of the March 1 tragic events), ANC also launched a joint program in collaboration with the 18 opposition parties forming part of the Congress," Musinyan added.
He further said that the program entitled 100 Steps envisages reforms in the healthcare sector and is seen as one of the opposition's major steps aimed at shaping a shadow cabinet.
As a major achievement of the Congress, Musinyan spoke of the increasing number of ANC co-thinkers, as well as the opposition's ability to strengthen its territorial subdivions.
He didn't make any hint of the opposition's plans, saying that the issue is still to be discussed.
"We'll talk about after seeing the New Year in," he added.
