The weather in 2010 cannot be considered favorable, according to Zaruhi Petrosyan, Head of the Operative Hydrometeorological Department at the Armenian State Hydrometeorological Service.

Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, she said this winter is rather warm, with the average temperature being 5-7 degrees above the norm.

"Snowfalls were rare. Such warm winters contribute to early vegetation which may cause plant freezing," she said, adding that the low temperature in March and the subsequent precipitations damaged some blossomed trees, causing fungus disieases in crops.
Petrosyan also spoke about the extremely high temperature in summer, saying that the heat in Armenia was above acceptable norm though it didn't reach the danger point.

"Then a hot autumn followed," she added. "There were actually no precipitations in November and December. This too, cannot be favorable for agriculture," the specialist said.
